Frequently Asked Questions About Photography courses by Jj Constantine

What skill level are your workshops for?

We offer courses for every level — from total beginners to hobbyists and even experienced photographers looking to refine or specialize. Our 2-day beginner workshop is perfect if you’re just starting out and want a strong foundation. If you’re more intermediate or advanced, our lighting, retouching, posing, and on-location sessions, or a completely tailored 1-on-1 course, can dive deep into advanced techniques and any specific skills you want to master.

Do I need a fancy camera?

Not at all. A DSLR or mirrorless is ideal, but if you have a good advanced compact, that can work too. The most important thing is that your camera lets you shoot in manual mode — so we can take full control together.

How many people are in each class?

Most of our workshops are kept intentionally small, usually between 4-8 people, depending on the course. This way you get plenty of personal attention. Our 1-on-1 courses, of course, are just you and me.

What will I learn in the 2-day beginner course?

You’ll build a solid foundation: manual settings (aperture, shutter, ISO), lens choices, natural light techniques using reflectors and diffusers, on-camera flash outdoors, plus an intro to studio lighting and basic retouching.

What about your lighting workshops?

Lighting workshops focus on creating professional results in a studio or on location. We’ll cover continuous lights, strobes, simple one-light setups, and how to use modifiers to shape your look — perfect for portraits, headshots, or even creative fashion-inspired images.

Can I learn retouching or editing?

Yes — we have dedicated retouching courses or can include editing in your custom session. You’ll get hands-on experience in Capture One and Photoshop, learning how to do everything from natural skin work to balanced, cinematic color grading.

I struggle with posing people — do you teach that?

Absolutely. Our posing and directing sessions help you guide anyone — whether it’s friends, family, or paying clients — into natural, confident poses. We’ll also cover little tweaks that make a big difference (like hands, posture, and expressions).

What happens in the on-location workshops?

We’ll take your photography outside, learning how to find great light anywhere and use tools like scrims, diffusers, reflectors, and on-camera flash. It’s the best way to build confidence shooting in any natural setting.

Can I really customize a 1-on-1 course?

Yes. Every 1-on-1 starts with a personal consultation to figure out what you want — whether it’s all lighting, all posing, a mix of everything, or focused editing. Then we build your session around your exact needs, at your pace.
